Marek Johnson was brought to life by David Helm after nearly two decades of touring the planet as a sideman with numerous formations. A highly acclaimed double bassist and improviser, David is immersed in all types of music and can be heard on over 70 recordings. While he often plays solo in live performances, Marek Johnson's music and spirit usually come to life in the studio as a duo with colleagues such as Jan Philip, Shannon Barnett, and Wanja Slavin. David grew up singing in choirs and playing in bands, with music always the constant in his life. The spiritual experience, sense of community, and self-reflection are key elements of his work.
